Project description

Helge became The Accidental Rock Star, now you can become An Accidental Film Producer!

We have funding from The Norwegian Film Institute and the Eastern Norway Film Centre, but we need more support to be able to recreate Kaizers fantastical world. The magical, mysterious, glamorous, debauched aesthetic that ties the whole film together costs money – so to create it we need your help! The more money we get, the more fantastic the visuals will be. We are positive that many people would like to see this film, and if everyone contributes just a little bit we will be able to finish it. Every little (and big) contribution helps - we are happy for whatever amount you are able to give. To show our appreciation, we would like to give everyone a symbolic thank you in return; a button, a thank you in the credits, or even an opportunity to be in the film. See the list on the right for an overview of what you can get for you contribution.

About the film
Helge was lured away from his studies at the teacher training college and drawn into the magical world of Kaizers Orchestra because he was the only person they knew who could play the harmonium and accordion. He never really dreamed of being a rock star, nor even really liked rock music - but he has lived the rock-n-roll life ever since. Drawing inspiration from the band’s own aesthetic, this film blurs the boundary between imagination and reality, incorporating staged scenes and elaborate sets with fly-on-the-wall documentary and archive footage.

In The Accidental Rock Star, Helge becomes trapped in the universe he helped to create – much like he accidentally became a part of a legendary band. He gets separated from the others on the way to perform at the Oslo Opera House and finds himself in a fictional universe. He travels through fantastical worlds inspired by the albums in Kaizers history – leading us to different chapters of documentary material. On this journey we get a glimpse of Norwegian rock history - from Kaizers’ humble beginning in a practice room at the Teachers' College to sold out concerts at the opera 12 years later.

The timeline
This campaign will run from Wednesday May 1st to Sunday June 16th, giving us just under seven weeks to bring in the money. If we don’t reach our goal, we don’t get any money at all. But if we manage to raise 20,000 Euro (or more!), then we will start shooting the special “Kaizers world” scenes in August. After that we edit all the material (all 150 hours of it) down to a 70 minute film. The whole film should be ready for its release early 2014. But this is film, so if a better idea comes up, we go for it.  We will keep you updated about any changes throughout the process.

HOWEVER, if we don’t reach our target, we don’t get any crowdfunding cash at all. You will get your money back, but you won’t get any of the perks and rewards listed.  So help us out not only by a financial contribution - spread the word to other fans, film buffs, friends and family members so we can reach our goal. Every little bit helps.

The Accidental Film Critic Road Show
After yet another good suggestion, we have decided to add another perk to the list before the campaign ends. This one is for people who would like to arrange a special event in their hometown. For 2500 Euro (ca 19000 NOK), the Accidental Film Critic Event will take to the road and come to you. You sort out the place and invite the guests, and Igor will come to your hometown for a screening of the unfinished film so you can be a part of shaping its outcome. The perfect perk for a film club, café, or other groups, perhaps something for people who can't make the trip to one of the other events. This event can take place in late November only. We will work together with you to arrange exactly when. If you are a group that decides to chip in together to support us with this pledge, then we will need one of you to be the main contact person for working out the practical details. Because of travel costs, this perk will be limited to Norway. (sorry) If you have any questions, drop us a line at .
